Lord of the Rings Assessment Task 1

The Score - Throughout the clip, it is used to provide tension in the scene.

Dialogue - Dialogue is the text that the characters in the scene are going to say

Foley - When the horses are moving. It is used to create a more realistic sound as appose to using real life sounds.

Ambiance - Wind, Screaming People, Horses. Basically everything that is creating the environment in the scene.

Purpose of the Soundtrack

Establishes an atmosphere/mood - The dragon at the start of the scene sets the tone of the scene as it shows some kind of fight is bound to happen. The foley sound of the chains also warns us that something is likely to happen.

Tells the audience how to feel - The slow pace low pitch music at the start turns to fast dramatic music as the scene gets more tense. This tells us there is more than likely going to be some sort of fight between the two armies.

Adds dramatic effects - Sooth or Startle - We can hear from the start that we are going to be shocked but it starts off nice and slow paced to draw us into the scene. As the two army's get closer together we hear the music get quicker, this signifies that the fight that is going to happen is very close to commencing.
